Behind the scenes of creating visuals for Lowenna's newest single release, Relief.
Lowenna, an upcoming recording artist, commissioned me to work on the visuals for her newest project at the time, Relief.
Since 2020, Lowenna had performed on television, radio, local stages and festivals, with media coverage on several platforms but didn't yet have promotional photos of her own. Beyond cover art, our work together was Lowenna re-framing and crafting her visual identity as an artist.
We planned a photoshoot together based on ideas we collected in a mood board; a lot of dramatic shadows, soft lighting and brown tones.
In preparation for the shoot, I learnt about more niche techniques in portrait photography; about lighting composition, diffusion and using the shape of shadows cast on the subject's face to suggest different moods.
I setup my living with some equipment I borrowed from my university's media services lab and items I already had at home;
I enlisted the help of some friends, Michelle and Anson, to help organize equipment and lighting in my makeshift apartment studio. It took a few test shots, but together and with Lowenna's feedback we fine-tuned the composition to match our moher initial vision.
We really enjoyed working on this together, this was Lowenna favourite shoot to date!
You can listen, to her newest single Relief, out now on music streaming platforms.
